Summary

Coach Selection in the Assessment Center
To develop its management culture, RheinEnergie AG is intensifying its use of coaching and, in doing so, is looking for coaches that demonstrate both professionalism and experience in appraising their clients. To set up a corresponding coach pool, RheinEnergie AG decided to use a coach assessment, a selection process designed to assess the competence and effectiveness of the coaches under practical working conditions. The authors summarized their experience with conducting this AC as follows: “On the one hand, we encountered coaches that offered accurate hypotheses and that clearly and convincingly explained to us how they would set up a targeted process with the coachee of the case study. These coaches were very happy to share their knowledge with us and even outlined several methodological approaches. We also encountered coaches that confronted us with a multitude of psychological foreign terms, reported in detail about themselves and their lives up to the present, and who were unable to provide a clear assessment of the case study to be analyzed.” As a result of the AC process, two of the five coaches were accepted as members of the coach pool.
